And I'm a little bit closer to my truck...

another craiglist sale done and I'm one more step closer to my truck. For those of you playing at home, I set out to get a 1965-1966 F-100 as a project. It was the truck my dad had when I was little. Love the truck and thought it would be cool to build it and then take him out in it. My conditions are:

1) Has to be running, driving because of the HOA rules here. Even when I do major work, I have to figure out how to stay within the rules but get the work done. We have a rule that no non-running vehicles are to be kept on the property. Going to be hard to work that out when I need to do an engine and front suspension swap.

2) No money coming out of the family budget. Everything must be done by either selling things I don't use anymore, or by flipping things.

So, today I sold my Raleigh R600 road bike to someone locally who is going to put new components on it and auction it off in a charity event in the spring. Paid asking price. A small step toward the goal. Now, if I could only sell the beautiful solid cherry table I bought at a yard sale. Any takers?

Very cool! 60's trucks are getting more and more valueable as 50's trucks get out of reach for more people. Don't wait too long! Do you have a garage?

I'm planning on buying in the spring. Have a 2 car garage that I have been outfitting in preparation for the project. Looking to do:

Crown Vic IFS

Rear disk brakes

V8 (probably only going to find a straight 6)

3.2 inch drop in front, 3 inch in rear

Rims and Tires

Paint

Keeping the bench seat and stock dash but will restore it

Adding A/C if necessary

Obviously I can't do it all at once, but I'm a big proponent of proper planning. I see too many builds on the interwebs that are a conglomeration of half-completed tasks - ".. here's the dash, I still have to fill-in-the-blank, and now in the back I fixed this but I still have to fill-in-another-blank ..." You get the idea. I find myself screaming at the screen to see something actually completed. Therefore, I'm doing a bunch of planning and making sure that I know exactly what I'm going to do. Then when I get the project, I can execute the plan. Included in that plan is how to afford the parts and outside labor when I need it.

Tricky negotiating the fine line between vintage, budget, and HOA.

Here's a regiona CL l look at the market.

Because they're still everywhere around here.

Yeah, that is a tricky line. HOA says they must be running, registered and have tags. In fact, all repairs must be completed within a day. Good thing I have a garage for the multi-day repairs (don't think my neighbors would bark at that), but the drive-around inspectors would ping me for a "project" in the driveway.

I also have realized I'm going to have to travel to make this happen. There just aren't many around here, but in Western Va there are several. Looks like Tennessee is the home of the mid-sixties F-100's!

Yeah, actually I think my neighbor has three, but just one of the right vintage but not right condition. I wish you best of luck on the venture. Perhaps one of those, with a stop by a paint shop on the way to HOAville. :)

Then I don't see how your HOA can do anything. Non running car parked on the street is one thing. What you have in your garage is none of their business.

The wording is "not on the property". The garage is on the property. I could probably get away with it for a while, but all it takes is someone forcing the issue and I lose and probably will get hit with a fine that would just take money out of my toy fund.
